Scenes From Half-Autistic Marriage

August 9, 2011

Scene: Aaron and Sarah are walking through Ontario Place, on the way home from the Foreigner/Journey show.

A: Remember when there was a boat here?

S: You mean the HMCS Haida?

A: I take it you visited it?

S: Visited it, bought the souvenir captain’s hat and wore it around like it was a normal hat. It’s in Hamilton now. They moved it about ten years ago, and I think they had to dry dock it and repair the hull, and then moved it to a museum of some sort.

A: Oh.

S: I bet you weren’t expecting that answer.

A: Actually, I kind of was.

Grrrrr! Sheilah Copps stole the Haida from Toronto!

  2. Rachel Says:

I would have expected that kind of answer too.

Don’t you hate it when people looked shocked about good, valid information because all they were expecting was, “yes”?

In grade 10, my teacher asked, “What’s the difference between a Holstein cow and a Jersey cow?”
Now I come from dairy farmers so I said, “A Holstein gives greater volume but a Jersey gives a higher fat content.”
From the look on her face, I immediately realized that she had been expecting, ‘a Holstein is black and white and a Jersey is brown.’ *sigh*
